NOW AVAILABLE: The Music Within
Hello, friends!
I’m a little delayed on the announcement, but The Music Within: An Interdisciplinary Introduction to Western Harmony is now available! You can find it HERE. The cool thing about this unit study is that it’s not just music—we’re hitting core subjects, too. Math, ELA (via social studies), and Science! There’s so much that goes into making music, it kind of boggles the mind.
This unit study is perfect for a beginner musician who either wants to know more about the “why” behind what they’re learning, or just likes music and hates everything else. For the second kind of student, they’ll get to practice things like solving single variable linear equations in a way that feels relevant to the real world (and their presumed interest in music). They’ll also get the very basics of music theory and a bit of ear training, too!
Here’s a quick list of the topics covered:
Music and society
Music and the brain
What is music?
Pitch, frequency, and waves
Musical intervals
Pythagoras and musical ratios
Overtones and harmonics
Tuvan throat singing
Musical scales
Non-Western musical systems
Major and minor scales
Keys and key signatures

That’s all for now! Stay tuned for Heretique Market’s next offering, a mini hymnal/book of carols for the Wheel of the Year.
Yours in heresy,
Kassandra
